Students Select George Bush as President of the United States in Nation's Largest
On-line K-12 Student Mock Election | October 28, 2004
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Nearly one million students nationwide cast ballots
in the YLI Mock Election, "electing" George Bush as the next President
of the United States. Students in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and
American schools abroad voted over the last two weeks in the nation's largest
on-line K-12 student mock election, using electronic cyber ballots specifically
tailored to each student's home-voting location. Combining the vote totals of
all races nationwide, students cast more than two million votes.
"Given the unprecedented level of interest and participation in this year's
YLI Mock Election, the future of democracy in America looks very bright and
promising," said Lea Brown, YLI Director of Instruction. "From Hawaii
to Alaska, from Maine to California, and everywhere in between students went
to the polls in the hundreds of thousands to make their voices heard in this
Presidential election, and America is proud of each and every one of them and
their dedicated teachers for taking part in this educational exercise."
Students all across the United States voted for President and Vice President
as well as their local Member of Congress. In states where there were gubernatorial
and senatorial campaigns, students also were offered the opportunity to cast
ballots in those statewide contests.

The YLI Mock Election is an academic exercise. It is not a true random sample
of the general public nor of public opinion among America's K-12 student population,
and is therefore not designed to be predictive of the general election.
