Classroom Resources Available for Constitution Day, September 17 | August 17, 2005
New federal legislation authored by Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia requires that
on Constitution Day, schools receiving federal funds present a program on the
Constitution. To assist schools in meeting the conditions of this legislation, YLI
has developed new Constitution-related classroom resources. Lessons such as "Exploring
the Bill of Rights for the 21st Century" and "Understanding the Constitution: The Three
Branches of Government" ask elementary, middle, and high school students to take an
in-depth look at the document and the amendment process. "Researching the Amendments"
is available in both English and Spanish to meet the needs of a wide variety of school
districts. To find these lesson plans or to search for other lessons focusing on the
structure and function of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Preamble to the
Constitution, or the Constitutional amendment process, an updated and fully-searchable
lesson plan database is available to all YLI teachers. Simply log in with your username
and password in the red box on the left side of this screen. If you are not registered
with YLI, sign up now.
From all of us at YLI, Happy Constitution Day!
