8 for '08 Youth Poll Now Open | February 20, 2006
Voting is now open for the 8 for '08 youth poll, which asks students to choose a woman leader for whom they would vote in a 2008 presidential race.
8 for '08 features four Republican and four Democratic women selected by The White House Project, a national non-partisan organization dedicated to advancing women's leadership across sectors, enhancing public perception of women's ability to lead, and fostering the entry of women into leadership positions, including the presidency.
The White House Project (www.thewhitehouseproject.org) has selected the following women as candidates in a 2008 presidential race: Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), Mayor Shirley Franklin (D, Atlanta, GA), Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), Governor Janet Napolitano (D-AZ), Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Governor Kathleen Sebelius (D-KS), and Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME). Students have the option to view photos and biographical information for each candidate before voting.
Interested YLI teachers may log in at www.youthleadership.net to view and print student voting instructions. The student poll follows the easy-to-use format of the YLI Mock Election, with automatic online results as well as a paper ballot option. If you have any questions, please call YLI toll-free at 866.514.8389 or email ylihelp@virginia.edu.
Voting is open through Friday, March 10, 2006. State-by-state results of the student poll will appear on the YLI website Friday, April 28, and will also be published in the April 30th issue of Parade magazine.
