Students in Kentucky Vote to Keep Republicans in Office
November 07, 2007
Over the past two weeks, almost 10,000 students across the state of Kentucky cast over 55,000 votes in the nation's largest online, student-only mock election. Votes were cast in the 2007 Kentucky Student Mock Election using electronic ballots specifically tailored to the 2007 Kentucky races.

YLI to Honor Constitution Day this Fall with Special Lesson and Mock Constitutional Convention

This fall, YLI will host its first ever Mock Constitutional Convention - a student-only online mock election which focuses on a series of important constitutional issues. YLI Announces First ACE Awards Winner

YLI is proud to announce that Dayna Laur of Central York High School in York, Pennsylvania is the first ACE Award winner. Laur created a lesson plan on judicial interpretation entitled "Becoming a Supreme Court Justice." Created by Center for Politics director, Larry J. Sabato, the ACE Awards are designed to encourage the creation of rigorous, engaging and novel approaches to civic education.

The results are in for the 2006 session of YLI's e-Congress! With nearly 500 teachers from forty-six states and American schools abroad, this year's participation reached an all time high for the five year old simulation.

Students in nationwide poll elect Condoleezza Rice as most viable female presidential candidate for 2008

Over the course of three weeks, more than 13,000 students from 45 states and the District of Columbia voted in the exciting 8 for '08 Student Poll, co-sponsored by the Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI), based at the University of Virginia Center for Politics, and The White House Project, a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing women's leadership.

New federal legislation authored by Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia requires that on Constitution Day, schools receiving federal funds present a program on the Constitution.
